This includes seven years founding and operating successful private sector recycling and waste management companies in Tanzania and Kenya with teams of over 50 employees and 10+ years consulting for international donors, banks and institutions, including the World Bank, USAID, DFID/FCDO, GIZ and the UN. Matthew has wide knowledge on various recycling processes, models and markets worldwide. He has also run projects on informal collection networks, insect-derived protein from organic waste, waste to fuel, carbon offsetting, plastic credits and hazardous waste disposal. He has performed waste audits, written solid waste management plans and best practice guides for municipalities and developed policy papers on improving waste collection fees. Provided technical assistance to municipal staff to develop a public awareness campaign promoting the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) and setting up at-source segregation in schools in Kabul working with informal recyclers.
