Economist at Orygen where I worked to improve the fairness and efficiency of mental health systems. My main focus is developing and applying a novel framework to improve the quality and usefulness of mental health models.

• Researcher at a large university centre for health economics. Research responsibilities focused primarily on economic modelling and integrated clinical and economic trials in psoriasis, aortic surgery and mental health.• Working as part of multidisciplinary teams, co-developed discrete event simulations in R for the health economic analysis of an aneurysm repair decision aid (report published by Health Technology Assessment) and a simulation environment for exploring management and education options for patients psoriasis. Also conducted a systematic review of economic evaluations of psoriasis therapies (article published in British Journal of Dermatology).• Participated in the development and analysis of a discrete choice experiment exploring patient and carer preferences relating to care planning in mental health.• Provided health economic evaluation teaching support for Masters programs, both as a grader of student assignments and in providing guest lectures.

• Provide research, teaching and content development for this international continuous improvement consultancy with a large healthcare practice.• Work to date has principally focused on pharmacy, where outputs have included development of a health economic evaluation template for continuous improvement investments in hospital pharmacies, a survey of communications efficiency in Irish hospital pharmacies, a literature review of economic evaluations of medicines management health information technology and process improvements, clinician education articles and a scoping report on continuous improvement in Irish community pharmacy.• Have designed and delivered health economics workshops in Dublin, Ireland (for hospital pharmacists) and Toronto, Canada (for healthcare professionals)• Project managed the technical development of the company’s learning management system and provided editorial review and updating of instructional content for continuous improvement courses for Canadian healthcare and supply chain professionals.• Responsible for successful development of tenders for new business.

• Contracted for a three month assignment by large (€400m per year turnover) non-profit health and social care provider. • Principal output was a service innovation and research agenda for a new service model designed to achieve improved adolescent and young adult mental health outcomes through building the social and relational supports and capabilities of primary school aged children.• Supporting outputs included recruitment of an expert advisory board, development of a framework mental health service innovation strategy and an initial position paper as background to development of a collaborative research partnership with the University of Sydney.

• Responsible for translating the clinical research output of the largest psychiatry research centre in Australia (160 research centre staff, co-located with a clinical service of approximately the same size) into analysis and communications that shape health service innovation and policy.• Conducted policy analysis, proposal development, budget impact and workforce modelling, communications management, government relations and strategic planning.• As part of services delivered under contract to the Australian Government, developed an Excel-base modelling tool that underpinned financial and operational planning for a €190m national expansion of Early Psychosis services.• Researched and co-developed policy papers and presentations on investment priorities in mental health reform, creating a national youth mental health service system, developing the youth mental health workforce and achieving better employment outcomes for people with mental illnesses.• Team outcomes included €1.1b of new investment in mental health reform (€360m for programs developed by Orygen Youth Health Research Centre), intensive media coverage and enhanced community engagement.

• Full time Social Studies Teacher and part-time strategic planning consultant for Fundacion Rose (an educational foundation that owns and operates a number of schools in Guatemala).• E-Learning Consultant and Eastern Caribbean Civic Education Course Director for Trust for the Americas / Organization of American States (a 34 country member organization based in Washington DC). • Researcher for Belize and Guatemala sections of Footprint Travel Guide’s Central America and Mexico handbook.• Team outcomes included original civic education and decision making courses for young people in seven countries in the Central America and Caribbean region supported by a custom developed e-learning platform.

• Co-developed The One Foundation's first mental health investment strategy and identified and assessed initial investment opportunities for €2m p.a. fund to build the capacity of the Irish mental health sector. • Team outcomes included catalysing two new organisations: Headstrong - The National Centre for Youth Mental Health and Mental Health Reform Ireland.

• Co-Founder & Director of Finance and Operations for Headstrong (while seconded from The One Foundation), helping to recruit start-up team (including identifying the successful CEO candidate for board appointment), establishing financial and reporting processes, writing business planning and proposal documents and managing start-up staff.• Team outcomes include €4.3m of start-up funding for Headstrong.

• Responsible for establishing a new advocacy unit to improve the policy impact of one of the world's leading youth mental health research centres (a partnership between the University of Melbourne, Melbourne Health and Colonial Foundation). • Team outcomes included a €32 million Australian Government commitment to establish Headspace.• The National Youth Mental Health Foundation.

• Established policy, research and communications unit in newly formed representative body for the Community & Voluntary sector in the Republic of Ireland.• Represented the Community & Voluntary sector in policy fora including Community and Voluntary Pillar of Social Partnership, the Forum on Europe and the Joint Oireachtas Finance & Public Service Committee.• Helped write and research strategic planning materials, funding proposals and policy papers and established new publications. • Team outcomes included €2 million of new funding and Government invitations to participate in policy fora.

• Co-Founded a production company specialising in educational media, responsible for strategy, intellectual property and finance. • Principal writer and researcher for strategy and investment materials.• Producer or Financial Controller of TV and interactive media projects.• Team outcomes included €100,000 of start-up finance, two short films for RTE (national broadcaster), a consumer education CD-ROM for the Department of Education (Republic of Ireland) and e-learning resource for Robert Morris College (United States).

• Full time elected president of the University of Limerick student body, with ultimate managerial responsibility for 16 employees.• Principal student representative on most of the key policy making and academic planning bodies of the university – including Governing Body, Academic Council and all faculty boards. • Team outcomes included turning around the union's €280,000 operating deficit (on previous year's €900,000 turnover) to a €38,000 operating profit and securing additional revenue from University for subsequent years.
