Always up for a challenge and working in small companies has provided plenty of variety, whether that be in-house product design, third party integration or problem diagnosis. There is seldom just one job to be done and judging the priorities of the multiple demands requires an organised disciplined approach and self-motivation to achieve results – I thrive in this environment. My software designs have spanned assembly code in bootloaders to object orientated code in Android applications. I have designed web pages and interacted with third party APIs to access remote services and leverage their functionality into the company’s products. Not everything is designed in-house and often a product is brought in from outside and I have worked on many projects to add or enhance a product’s functionality to integrate it into the company’s portfolio. Sometimes this has led to interaction with external design teams to specify bespoke features for interacting with the company’s services.I have a wide breadth and depth of knowledge in networking, and this has been applied to great effect with cloud services running in multiple datacentres on different platforms. A deep knowledge of linux and the use vmWare tools and knowledge of Azure virtual machines is just the start.Administration of Microsoft 365 business products and the associated tenancy also falls within my list of roles, and I provide support and advice on their use. For example, the Teams service provides an excellent way for teams of people to interact and can also provide a telephony service with advanced features of its own. Often a PowerShell script can automate many a laborious operation.Nothing of course ever runs smoothly all the time, so there is always the challenge of diagnosing faults and maybe interacting with support teams (e.g., Microsoft, Yealink…). If external support is called upon, the ability to clearly communicate the problem and provide a reasoned argument is necessary. Often patience too!I am a successful and experienced engineer having been instrumental in several start-up companies that have gone on to be sold.
