As a VFX Supervisor I will :Conceptualise and plan visual effects scenes: This may be include storyboarding and pre-visualization, as well as creating mock-upsand prototypes to test the feasibility of different effectsManage projects: Ensuring that deadlines are met and the work is completed to a high standard. This can include overseeing ateam of VFX Artists and providing guidance and feedback to ensure that the work is consistent with theoverall vision of the projectResearch new techniques: We must stay up to date with new techniques and technologies and so will be responsible for researchingand implementing new software, tools, and workflows to improve the quality and efficiency of the work.Troubleshooting: Be proficient at problem-solving and be able to troubleshoot technical issues that arise during the production process. Must be able to fix issues, or find workarounds with software, hardware,or workflow, and to find creative solutions to complex problems.Quality control: Responsible for ensuring that the work produced by the team meets the high standards of the project. This may involve reviewing and providing feedback on the work of other VFX Artists, as well as performing quality control checks on the final output.Mentoring: Developing junior artists skills and abilities.As A Senior VFX Artist I am responsible for the creation and execution of visual effects for films,television shows, commercials, and other media projects - will need to understand and execute most tasks in a VFX pipeline such as. particle effects. cloth, hair, dust and liquid simulations, rotoscoping, keying, camera tracking, matchmoving etc.

Liaising with the producers for scheduling, costing, and using F-Track to manage projects. Constantly evaluating the pipeline, software and looking for new and more efficient ways of achieving the best quality as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. Working closely with the team to keep skills development going and help them achieve their goals.Creating tools and HDAs to assist with setup of shots and automate where possible.Visual Effects work including particles, dynamics, crowds, motion graphics and fluid fx. Look development, lighting, shading & rendering. Compositing and QC of CG work and effects.

My tasks were all sorts of vfx: dynamics & destruction, particle fx, l-systems and all things in between. Often tweaking geometry was needed, painting up the odd texture or weight map and doing whatever was necessary to get the shot done.We used Houdini as our main workhorse and also made use of XSI, Mari, Z-Brush, Nuke & Modo. My tasks included creating shaders, setting up scenes for lighting & rendering and managing the renders using Rush.As a lead FX artist, I was also responsible for coaching and overseeing the other FX artists and assisting production to get jobs done on time and meet the brief.We used a bunch of in-house command-line tools, used a film-based pipeline and had Linux as our main OS.

Animation SA is an organisation aimed at helping the SA animation and CG industry to grow and progress.As a board member, I would provide insight into the FX industry, try and steer decisions made to assist with the interaction between our organisation and government departments. I also assisted with preparing documentation that was handed over to various government departments, and oversaw and helped to maintain the website.We were able to get a number of projects off the ground, specifically aimed at assisting previously disadvantaged artists in our industry, and we oversaw and assisted the AnimationXchange initiative that aimed to get artists to meet and show their work, and have experienced artists give workshops and constructive feedback to younger and junior members.I also held master classes at Wits Digital Arts and at Learn2 to pass on knowledge and answer any career related questions the students had.
