- Sourcing & interpolating/modelling tidal current flow data from hydrographic observation stations to improve forecasting and navigation accuracy. Focus is on performant code that runs in parallel on arbitrarily large datasets.- Developing workflows for large scale processing of satellite/lidar imagery to enhance our understanding of the coastal zone. - Using finite element techniques & FEniCS packages with ocean bathymetry data to solve partial differential equations and create fluid dynamics models of coastal tidal current flow. - Incorporating processing workflows into our AWS based development pipeline.

During the Covid-19 lock-down, to better equip myself to face the challenges of leadership, I undertook an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) accredited course focused on the academic research environment.Workshops were built on Socratic dialogue; active listening was the cornerstone around which strategies to build motivated and cohesive teams, encourage inclusion, manage goal oriented projects, combat stress and tackle workplace conflict were discussed.I assessed the leadership and management styles and developed recommendations for improving/combating the mental health challenges faced by young researchers.I continue to develop these ideas and skills with written essays that will contribute to a Level 5 Certificate in Leadership & Management (ILM accredited).

There are two main roles I have as a demonstrator in Manchester. The first is supervising groups of undergraduate students in their laboratory projects. Advice and guidance is provided regarding measurements and analysis of data and marking of written reports in a wide range of topics.My second role is running tutorial classes for small groups of undergraduates in maths and physics. Sessions involve answering questions on the board and discussing the underlying concepts.

*** Awarded the Springer Outstanding Thesis Prize recognizing scientific excellence ***Based in the National Graphene Institute utilizing ISO 5 class 100 clean rooms to fabricate nanoscale devices. Specifically investigating nano-mechanical properties of Van der waals heterostructures. - Developed framework and protocols required to produce and characterize nano-electromechanical architectures. - Critical/lateral thinking and innovating are necessary tools for problem solving in the design and troubleshooting of novel nano-devices. - Patience, perseverance, positivity and commitment are key skills learned through continued iteration and failure cycles experienced when developing nanoscale 2D material devices. - Project planning, efficient time management and self-assessment are all required to get results on time in a fast paced, high output environment. - Analysis of large, complex/convoluted datasets; presenting the concepts and emerging conclusions demonstrates my ability to step back and understand the broader landscape and effectively communicate these in a range of formats.*** Data analysis techniques - Jupyter notebooks used to develop data analysis workflows in Python that include interpolation/extrapolation, 2D fourier frequency analysis, regression and data-wrangling of time series & multi-dimensional datasets. I was a contributing writer to the news column at nanotechweb.org. - Drafting, proof reading and copy editing short news reports about new scientific research for a general audience. - In-depth reading of academic literature, extracting the complexity and highlighting the fundamental concepts. - Ensuring the publication schedule is kept by communicating with a global team to complete project milestones.

My research secondment was spent learning and conducting experiments using a low temperature scanning tunneling microscope. The measurements focused on superlattices in aligned graphene/hexagonal boron nitride heterostructures.
