As a Concept Engineer at Loupe, I helped machine builders, R&D groups, and startups bring their machine concepts into robustly designed industrial systems. Performed systems engineering work, which includes hardware selection and software architecture.The hardware selection comprised of controls (traditional and PC-based), I/O, drives (servo, VFD, and stepper), motors, gearboxes, actuators, stages, feedback devices, and safety components.Since much of the value of the hardware resides in their integration, the software architecture is critically important. I helped guide these same groups through the range of options for manufacturer-developed solutions, Loupe-developed products, and open-source technologies.In my Loupe-sanctioned cool-down time, I performed research on using large language models (LLMs) to generate IEC-61131 structured text suitable for developing functions, function blocks, and programs using vendor-specific libraries and function blocks that would be automatically added to the existing IDE.

I worked for Danaher Motion, a manufacturer of performance motion control products, as a field applications engineer. I was responsible for pre- and post-sales support for applications throughout the central United States.This support consists of system-level troubleshooting, machine and motion control debugging, start-up assistance, and technical training.I feel comfortable in the full spectrum of components in motion control systems including touch screens, multi-axis motion controllers, servo drives, linear and rotary motors, gearboxes and actuators. I size, select and start-up systems and configure them for optimized performance such as maximum throughput, minimum settling time and appropriate torque limitations for system mechanics.
