About Matthew Griffin
I am currently an assistant principal at Western High School in the Anaheim Union High School District. I have had the honor to work with diverse groups of students and staff. As an Assistant Principal, I have helped to lead schools at both the junior and senior high school level. Fostering a learning environment where teachers feel safe to think outside the box and work to bring 21st century learning and the 4 C’s to their classroom has been a particularly rewarding journey.At Western high school I have worked hard to support teachers when faced with student challenges by building lasting relationships. I have worked to build the capacity of students by getting education to work for them. Building a culture of teamwork and connectedness has been vital to my success. While at Savanna high school I tackled the deep debt of the ASB and Athletic accounts. This exhaustive effort resulted in solid systems and a highly organized program which enriched the high school experience. Servant leadership guides my work. I value the relationships that I have with teachers, staff, parents, and students which has been built on trust and transparency. My work is deeply rooted in communication, teamwork, and building systems which allow teachers to teach and students to learn in a rigorous and engaging environment. From participating in the development of the vision and learning capacities on the Savanna High School campus, a 21st century exemplary site, to developing teacher capacity to incorporate learning that engages students through collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking. Having lead the special education departments at both the Savanna and Western high schools has required me to strategize and coordinate interventions and the teamwork to successfully support student success. I am a leader who engages a team approach and values the input and work of the entire staff.
