Electrical Technical Officer / 2Nd Engineer
Whilst working for Farstad on an anchor handling vessel, I made the transition from being a (fleet) Electrical Technical Officer (ETO) to 2nd Engineer. My work as an ETO involved DP2 upgrades, FMEA trials and general fault finding on marine controls such as Rolls Royce (Hellicon X, ACON and Dynamic Positioning Systems), Kongsberg (Dynamic Positioning Systems) and Brattvaag Winch Systems. In my last year with Farstad, I was 2nd Engineer on the Far Sound and continued to fly back to Australia to join her every five weeks.
Electrical Technician
Looking for a change leading to further skill development, I took a job with Aggreko’s projectsdivision. During this time, I was in charge of temporary power Installations up to 12MW andinterfacing into mine site switchyards. It was not uncommon for me to install temperature controlequipment, diesel or gas power generation units, load banks, HV step up/step downtransformers, earthing systems as well as other auxiliaries e.g. fuel tank and pumpingarrangements. I have installed temporary power systems to suit mining and offshoreconditions, load bank arrangements to commission new gas turbines and have masteredDEIF and DSE SCADA systems, which has allowed me to apply suitable power management systems to various situations and applications.
