Reprographic Services is a division within the General Services Department for the County of Santa Barbara. The operation produces digital copies, carbonless forms, envelopes, and large format full-color pieces for presentation. The majority of the work is internal, supporting the printing requirements of the county's many departments.

I first met Mark Coudray while working at Blake Printery. I had always been impressed with Mark's early adoption of new technology, and shared his enthusiasm for the Macintosh as used in the graphics business. While working with Mark I learned the fine points of high-end screen printing from a master craftsman. I also met dozens of really great people and had a blast helping get their projects completed.

One of the premier sheetfed label printers in the United States, Blake Printery was primarily a commercial printer when I began my career there in 1984. By 1990 we had made the transition to being one of the most respected and quality oriented label printers in the U.S. Our client list included Robert Mondavi, Fetzer Vineyards, Corbett Canyon, Sebastiani Vineyards, and Charles Shaw to name but a few. When you stay with a company for twenty-one years you are obviously very happy with what you do, and quite fond of the fine people you work with. My career at Blake Printery allowed me to combine my love for complex machinery with a love for color, design, typography and art, in a way that was especially satisfying. In addition to the glue-applied labels Blake Printery was already known for, a merger with WS Packaging in 2002 allowed our team to offer high-quality flexographic and offset-produced pressure sensitive labels to the wine, beverage, and food products industries.Though I held other positions over two decades, my role as Quality Services Manager allowed me to travel with the sales force and to meet some of the "best of the best" in the wine industry - a truly remarkable experience.

Working at Diamond International introduced me to the world of offset printing and label production. My time there was an amazing learning experience, almost like going to college to learn the fine points of the printing trade.

At the Times-Delta I worked with many wonderful people. After a year working in the Circulation Department I moved to Display Advertising where I covered the downtown business area. I consider this position my first "real job"... helping downtown business owners - many of whom had known me since my youth - with their newspaper advertising needs. This first job in the graphics industry began a lifelong love affair with ink, type, and design, as well as customer service.
