Matthew Jonas is an award winning visual content creator living and making pictures in Colorado. The Colorado Press Association, Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters and the Society of Professional Journalists have all recognized his outstanding work in the field of photojournalism.Jonas started shooting in high school and working in a traditional wet chemistry dark room. He began his documentary work by capturing the lives of his friends and family in black and white 35mm film.In college, he kept shooting and moved from black and white 35mm film to digital. While working at the college paper, The Metropolitan, he began to develop and refine his skills.After graduating from Metropolitan State College of Denver (now MSUD) with a degree in journalism, Jonas went on to become an intern for The News Journal in Wilmington, Delaware. There, he learned multimedia story telling using video, audio and social media.When the internship ended, he was hired as a part time staffer, then as a freelancer for The News Journal. He also freelanced for the Associated Press and various corporate and private clients.After a short stay on the East Coast, Jonas returned to Colorado in 2007 to continue pursuing his photojournalism career as the Chief Photographer for the The Canyon Courier, The Clear Creek Courant, The Columbine Courier (RIP) and The High Timber Times.In 2012, Matthew Jonas became the Photo and Video Editor for the Longmont Times-Call newspaper. In 2020, Jonas was promoted to the Photo and Video Editor for the Boulder Daily Camera. His work has been published in The Denver Post, The Boulder Daily Camera, The Longmont Times-Call and in many other local and national publications.
