Absolute Data Solutions Ltd Feb 2001 - Dec 2008
One of the Founding directors of Absolute Data Solutions, which later merged with Intuistic Ltd to become Absolute Intuistic (Trading as AI Data Intelligence).I was elected onto the PAF Exec User Group, which represented UK companies and worked with Royal Mail in the UK to steer PAF related products and services. This position I held until the user group was merged into a cut down Royal Mail funded steering group as part of market deregulation. We also took over and continued development and support for the BiTTS system developed at Datalinx. This included integreation into the SABRE travel system and further support.
  • Datalinx
    Director
    Datalinx Apr 2000 - Mar 2001
Designed and managed the development of BiTTS - an integrated UK Train ticket booking call center system, used by Network South-East and later Connex TrainsDesigned and built Email targeting systems and web data mining systems, used to connect email addresses, telephone numbers, and physical locations together.
  • Nortel Networks
    Development Manager
    Nortel Networks 1997 - 1999
Worked as part of the ITU-T standards group to define the E-115 update, which migrated international directory inquiries away from the legacy X25 networks to the more modern TCP/IP networks. My E-115 gateway system allowed call center users to look up telephone numbers in [almost] any country in the world, and connect callers. This was deployed into Irelands "Conduit" which ran 192 services for Orange Telecom at the time, allowing them to quickly expand into Europe. The UK market later split from the 192 into a competative market. Conduit has now merged with KGB in America, which owns the famous 118118 brand in the UK.I lead the development team through the full product build, sales and deployment lifecycle, until leaving to take up a Director role in Datalinx Ltd in 1999.This involved looking after requirements, development staff, liasing with sales staff in the USA, finding test partners, managing world wide connection tests, linking X25 and TCP networks, linking to Telephone systems, and managing deployment into customers in various countries.
  • Nortel Networks
    Snr Developer / Systems Designer
    Nortel Networks 1995 - 1997
    Maidenhead, Uk
I moved back to the UK at the end of a long term overseas placement. Now working on Fixed Radio access telephone systems development. Source management was already via the MDE product I had designed in the USA.Due to my expertise in Directory products, I was hunted and chosen to set up a European development group to look at further opportunities in that area.
  • Computer Consoles Inc
    Snr Developer
Computer Consoles Inc Jan 1993 - Dec 1994
    Rochester, New York, Usa
Systems architect and developer for directory productsCCI Inc was part of STC, Taken over by Nortel in 1990's, and was based in Rochester NY. It was later known as Northern Telecom. It started off building RS232 Consoles - but later moved to Fault Tollerent Unix machines (famous for the Power 6/32 super mini), and then Phone Directory Access/Enquiry systems and automation. My work as a senior systems designer on the Directory One project moved me to design and development on the IBM RS6000 Power PC's.As a side project - I designed a Multi-site Development Environment (MDE) which allowed Nortel staff around different collaborating sites to work together on software development, and fully integrated tracking and system testing into the platform in such a way as code being accepted or rejected into a build based on if it worked, without impacting other peoples development or needing management overheads. Due to the power of the built in test suite, it found bugs in operating systems releases from IBM, and rejected OS updates that would not work with the developed software.
  • Icl / Stc Technology / Bell Northern Research / Nortel Ltd
    Senior Research Enginear
Icl / Stc Technology / Bell Northern Research / Nortel Ltd Aug 1989 - 1993

Software research and development looking into Cross operating systems Distributed Computing Architectures (including the European ANSA and RIBA projects). The Company was Standard Telephone and Cables (Technology Labs) - Known as STC, which owned ICL at the time I joined. Much of my work was with ICL colleagues, and included development and design for the new Unix mini computers coming from ICL at that time.I was also unix System Admistrator, growing the group from RS232 terminals connecting to some Sun3 servers, into a network of 20 sun desktops with file-servers. We also implemented [one of?] the first cat3 networks in the country, moving away from the big yellow ethernet cables of the early 80's.STC sold ICL to Fujitsu - and merged into Northern Telecom. The STL site became part of the Nortel research group BNR Europe Ltd.I then moved into fault tolerant Telephone directory lookup systems, including BT-Phonebase and later Directory One. This was in partnership with CCI - one of our sister companies in the USA which produced the fault tollerant Power 6/32 and 6/40 unix server clusters.

I worked for the university as holiday placements while doing a 3 year degree in Computer Systems and Micro Electronics.I used my firmware and disk operating system experience to build an NFS server mounting a native apple Mac filesystem and allowing read/write access. This allowed staff to have dual boot machines and access apple files from their Unix boot - complete with all file mappings as needed.I presented this work at the spring EUUG (European Unix User Group) conference in Brussels in 1989.NOTE: This was back in the days before Apple OS was itself Unix based.I was working for the university, running Devonshire House, and also doing a degree at the same time.
