As a child, I was always top of the class. Top of the school even. I didn't understand the brevity of continually being in the top percentile for my age-group, and neither did the teachers who stunted my potential. So, it was left up to me to explore, discover, and keep myself engaged - whatever that looked like.As a result, I've always been the sort of person to go against the grain. That guy out there exploring the unknown, going an extra step or two into the void, doing things differently from everyone else, living on the fringes and yearning for something "different". It's led me into a range of various pursuits but it was joining the Scouts as a youngster that really helped me explore the world and learn at my own pace.Later in life as a 28-year-old man, I returned to volunteer as Scout Troop Leader. It was a lot to take on for someone with limited experience - organising weekly meetings; keeping the kids and parents happy that I was doing the right thing; leading the committee; single-handedly organising camping trips for the entire 16-strong troop; facilitating my own leadership development; navigating cultural differences and learning difficulties; and training the Scouts across various faculties like leadership, spirituality, working as a team; community engagement; and knots/lashings (of course). No small feat for a young man but it's where I belonged - in charge and out of my depth. At the same time, I had been tackling my career head-on. Instead of being a doctor or lawyer as had been expected, I found myself engrossed in the electrical world. In total, I spent 14 years becoming an Industrial Electrician of the highest calibre - working in explosive environments; in fast-paced manufacturing environments; in building gas refineries or maintaining Uranium facilities; and working with industrial robotics. If it was cutting-edge, high-tech, or fast-paced - I was there! Both Scouting and being an electrician fed two inherent desires within me - a strong desire to learn, and a desire to share my passions and understanding of the world with others. Travel is where I eventually found my true home. In exploring the world, getting off the beaten track, and inspiring others to go there too. Nowhere is off-limits, and still to this day I urge others to explore the unknown. Now, I get to combine my loves of learning, exploring, and travelling by sharing the best of South Australia with travellers from across the globe. Over eight years on and nothing but hundreds of 5-star reviews proves to me that I've found my calling.
