About Matthew Leasure

Matt has over 20 years of professional planning and design experience in Ohio and across the Midwest. His project work is often situated at the intersection of public policy and design, and he strives to enable creative design solutions while supporting public participation and sustainability. At Designing Local, Matt leads the firm's urban design and landscape architecture projects which include urban districts, public spaces, historic sites, parks, institutional facilities, and private developments. Matt is a Past President of Columbus Landmarks. During his seven years serving on the Board of Trustees, Matt held a number of positions including Advocacy Chair and Nominating Chair. He currently serves on the Columbus Historic Resources Commission which reviews and provides certificates of appropriateness for modifications to historic properties.Matt is also a Lecturer at the Knowlton School of Architecture of The Ohio State State University. He has been the independent instructor on a number of master's level courses related to urban design, site planning, and real estate development. Matt's primary focus has been OSU's participation in the ULI Hines Student Competition. Since becoming the course instructor in 2016, Matt's leadership has resulted in OSU's consistent performance at a national level, with four Honorable Mention projects between 2019 and 2022.
