About Matthew Leyenaar
I define paramedicine as a mobilized on-demand health specialty providing access to care 24/7, 365. Paramedic services should be talking about the patients they care for (not the calls they do).By nature, paramedics know how to “take charge” and “solve problems.” I’ve built my career on those ideas, completing a PhD in health services research (investigating systems problems) that included fellowships and internships that further developed my leadership skills. I’ve investigated paramedic services efforts to help patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time. Sure, it’s a bit of a cliché. But when the problem that a patient is looking for help with is the time spent on a waitlist for long-term care, then it isn’t going to be solved by providing them with transportation to an emergency department. I work to align system functions, provide evidence to demonstrate successes, and provide leadership to implement improvements. My professional assets are:-Leadership: I put a lot of energy into listening to others so that I can set direction and promote engagement with others in a course to follow.-Communication: I see communication at the core of information exchange in the information age.-Analysis: From complex health systems to high-stress emergency situations, I can critically break down a problem, then identify and implement potential solutions.-Technology: I have understanding of statistical, GIS, and EMR software, with some programming experience. Data integration is key, so I stay informed of the latest advancements.
Listed skills include Emergency Services, Ambulance, Emergency Management, Policy, and 23 others.
