As Managing Director of integrated marketing agency Finex Communications in Knightsbridge I oversaw a period of rapid growth during which agency turnover tripled and we successfully diversified the business into a host of new vertical sectors. Finex, which primarily specialised in the technology, media and telecommunications sectors, was named 'Fastest Growing UK Agency' in Campaign Magazine when turnover reached £21m. The agency was then sold to Incepta Group at the start of 2001, and later became part of Publicis Sapient. Major clients included Sky, O2, Hewlett Packard, and Tiscali.

I successfully managed and grew both UK and overseas business with key agency clients including IBM, BT, Compaq, The Automobile Association, Tesco, Avco Trust, and Sony.The agency which employed 160 people, specialised in channel marketing, incentives and loyalty programmes. We devised, planned and implemented high profile EMEA-wide or even global campaigns which frequently culminated in lavish overseas trips for top performers to locations such as Bermuda, Bangkok, Sardinia, Botswana, and Nepal. My main interest was in developing direct and digital marketing solutions, as well as advertising and point of sale materials, which really engaged target audiences and encouraged take up and participation. I left the agency in 1996 after an extremely successful year of growth, particularly with IBM and Lotus, to pursue more mainstream and consumer marketing challenges.Motivforce was part of EURO RSCG, which later became Havas

In my first job after graduating, I was quickly promoted through the ranks from a sales and administrative position through to Commercial Director, whilst retaining a brand management and sales responsibility for a range of fire resistant glasses in the UK. With the latter responsibility I was able to drive a significant increase in sales of 'Pyrobel' glass, growing our market share by 20% over two years. I also retained a general sales responsibility for key clients such as Anglian Windows and Caradon Everest, exceeding sales targets each year.I decided to study for a postgraduate diploma in marketing in my spare time, becoming a full member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in 1993. The outbound advertising and marketing portion of my job at Glaverbel was the thing that fascinated me most, prompting my decision to switch from client side marketing to an agency environment in 1996.
