    Precise three-dimensional position control of a hovering quadcopter is critical for indoor operation and requires the integration of sensors that report the relative distances of nearby objects. This project explored the use of sonar and an additional thruster to provide direct translational control of vehicle position, avoiding the need to roll and counter-roll the vehicle. Adding a fifth motor and propeller, a thruster module was designed to modulate the balance of thrust in opposing directions (e.g., laterally to the left and right) to achieve a desired shift in position. This thrust direction control system was implemented with a servo controlled by an Arduino microcontroller that also reads the sonar modules. Once integrated with the flying quadcopter, this thruster module will allow for precise lateral position control while maintaining a level platform that will be important for future research on mounting manipulators on quadcopters.Project involved Design and implementation of sonar obstacle avoidance system for indoor flying quadcopter drone, using an Arduino, ultrasonic sensors, and a small motor, to devise a system capable of small-scale thrust vectoring. Utilized CAD 3D design, to print and test novel lateral thrust direction system.
