Matthew has experience in a range of contentious professional indemnity-related and construction-related matters. He has worked for both UK based and foreign clients from all sides of the construction industry, including professional indemnity insurers, employers, contractors, subcontractors and consultants.Matthew has been involved in a number of complex and high value arbitrations, adjudications and High Court cases. He has also been involved in numerous mediations and has experience of other forms of alternative dispute resolution, including expert determination.On the contentious side, Matthew’s diverse caseload has included disputes relating to the design and construction of: a chilled beam cooling system; a dance floor at a large UK leisure facility; the secondary lining to a major UK road tunnel; a specialist fire-fighter training facility in London; and a magnesium processing plant in Jordan. Matthew has advised on disputes relating to fire safety / external cladding defects at major high-rise developments. He also regularly advises insurers on complex and high-value policy coverage issues.On the non-contentious side, Matthew has experience of reviewing and advising upon the terms of various construction-related documents, including main contracts, subcontracts, professional appointments and collateral warranties.In 2014, Matthew completed a nine month secondment within the Claims Team of a major insurer client.Matthew is a ranked solicitor in Chambers and Partners in the field of ‘UK Professional Negligence: Technology and Construction – London Firms’. Matthew’s 2023 profile confirms that he has particular experience representing architects, contractors and their insurers in negligence claims alleging design and construction defects, and says that he is “easy to work with, very knowledgeable and gives clear, concise advice”.
