About Matthew Paradis

I am a lead R&D engineer co-leading the Audio Team within BBC Research and Development.My main focus is in the capture, production, delivery and archiving of Next Generation Audio (NGA) in a broadcast environment, specifically focused on the potential for accessible audio.I also provide support to areas of the BBC outside of research and development, this includes consultancy on studio acoustics, development of bespoke software for broadcast, analysis of broadcast data and the application of AI/ML to production tools.I currently supervise PhD students and graduates in accessible audio, AI/ML for object based audio mixing and am on the steering board for a number of EU and UK funded projects with academic partners.Since 2014 I have co-chaired the W3C Audio Working group responsible for Web Audio API and Web MIDI API and am a participant in standards groups across the EBU, ITU, SMPTE and the AES.In 2009 I earned my PhD at the University of York in the field of Human Computer Interaction for complex real time tasks. This focussed on the complexity of musical performance and the way in which performer intent could be mapped to DSP systems.
