As an independent nurse prescriber and UKAFNP ASET award recipient, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my current role as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner with Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust.In this capacity, I deliver high-quality, patient-centred, trauma-informed healthcare to individuals in police custody across Yorkshire and the Humber, focusing on Making Every Contact Count. Previously, I was fortunate and privileged to be seconded to NHS England as part of the Chief Nursing Officer's Clinical Nurse Fellowship programme, where I developed my leadership skills as part of a programme to review forensic healthcare standards.In addition to these roles, I serve as a steering group member of the UK Association of Forensic Nurses and Paramedics, where I am responsible for editing their quarterly newsletter, The Helix π§¬. This involvement allows me to contribute to the development and dissemination of best practices within the field of forensic healthcare.Throughout my career, I have maintained a keen interest in all aspects of police custody healthcare, publishing several peer-reviewed articles on the subject. My research and expertise centre around preventing deaths and harm in custody and tackling substance use, which are critical issues in the field.In recognition of my professional achievements and commitment to the nursing profession, I was honoured with the Queen's Nurse title from the Queen's Nursing Institute in 2022. This prestigious accolade further motivates me to be a leader and advocate for high-quality healthcare and education within the forensic and police custody healthcare landscape.
