Attending Bradford University to complete an RCN accredited advanced practice Masters degree award. Assessing those detained by police in custody. Ensuring that any and all medical and mental health needs are met. Ensuring that detention is safe. Assessing an individuals fitness to be detained and fitness to be interviewed. Assessing and treating alcohol and drug withdrawal as well as a wide range of clinical complaints.Where indicated undertake forensic examinations of individuals. Examination of individuals for injuries and then documenting those injuries in details. Taking forensic samples, including swabs, urine, blood and hair from those alleged to have committed serious offences.When asked to prepare professional and accurate statements for the police and the courts in the event of a criminal trial. On occasions will attend court and present evidence in chief.

The role of the clinical reviewer is to examine the clinical care pertinent to the death, provided to the deceased, whilst in custody, and to determine whether the care was equivalent, in accordance with national guidance, standards and local policy, to the care that one could expect to receive in the community.

The quarterly newsletter is sent directly to all UKAFNP's members. Topics include those of relevance working in the Custody and Sexual Offences arena. Including articles, book reviews, up-dates from around the UK.I am responsible for liaising with perspective authors and contributors. Coming up with relevant content. The design and structure of the newsletter. As well as organising and running competitions.
