As a Technician B in Dr. Shirley ShiDu Yan's laboratory, I focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying mitochondrial and synaptic degeneration in aging and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. Our research aims to uncover therapeutic targets by investigating mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and amyloid-beta interactions. Through developing innovative models and pioneering approaches, we strive to contribute to the prevention and treatment of age-related cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disorders.

At the Zupan lab, our research focuses on the neurodevelopmental basis of social behaviors related to autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. We explore the direct and indirect impact of genetic factors on neural circuit development and life-long behavioral patterns. Our work also investigates the role of maternal genetic variation in modulating offspring disease risk, without the direct inheritance of disease-associated genes. Utilizing mice as model organisms, we employ behavioral, pharmacological, and molecular techniques to uncover the mechanisms by which maternal genes influence offspring development and subsequent behavioral changes.

Working alongside Dr. Albert J. Kurpis, a renowned pioneer in dental implant research, I gained hands-on experience in room preparation, suture practice, impression taking, patient assistance, and prescription printing. I also collaborated with experts in periodontics, prosthodontics, cosmetic surgery, and general dentistry, enhancing my practical skills and knowledge of the field.
