I led a team new to agile, with a goal of building confidence in the organisation's ability to deliver a new product. It uses a machine learning model to predict occupancy on trains (ie how busy). This helps the Victorian public to make better informed decisions about their use of public transport. We established a time-boxed Minimum Viable Product (MVP) phase with the goal of proving viability of solution delivery within as short a time-frame as possible (six weeks). An end of MVP showcase to the Innovation Steering Committee was successful in demonstrating the outstanding progress that the team had achieved and established confidence that the model will be a success.

As Senior Product Owner and Delivery Lead, I successfully led the implementation of ESV’s largest IT project, a suite of new workflows critical to the corporate strategy. Key achievements included ESV transitioning from a project to a product development approach, enabling delivery of strategic business outcomes through the full product lifecycle. Over a period of two years, Product Ownership in ESV developed from being a lead delivery role within IT to a critical business role. This has been achieved through the building of trust and understanding across all layers of the organisation, including during the period of Covid-19 restrictions.

I led two new, cross-functional teams:1) To explore innovative solutions to problems experienced on Melbourne’s road network. The team goal was to generate data-based insights in line with the vision of identifying solutions to road congestion. Matt facilitated the Discovery phase such that a clear articulation of problems could feed into further exploration work. Key to success was harnessing a wide range of skills and experience, inside and outside the team, and a strong focus on communication and collaboration with senior stakeholders.2) Goal was to provide better data-based insights to internal and external customers. I worked directly with customers to determine the most valuable things for the team to be working on. I led the team through Discovery and into a delivery phase focused on accelerated learning, risk reduction and demonstrating values and behaviours for the rest of the department to learn from. I provided coaching to the team and Product Owner, and training to the wider department.

This large, complex organisation, in the Telecoms industry, was undergoing a major transformation to a more agile delivery model. I provided agile coaching, mentoring and delivery support. In this uncertain environment, landing on effective approaches required frequent feedback and learning loops. Some key themes to support delivery teams’ growth and improvement were autonomy, cross functionality, purpose, fun and understanding of value. Some of the effective approaches here were running several short training sessions, demonstration of behaviour and process through facilitation and (individual or team) feedback based on discrete observation.Collaboration with leaders on strategy, and implementation of that strategy, was critical to achieve effective change through aligned messaging. To gain more insight on system-wide challenges, a co-ordinated approach to team retrospectives enabled identification of improvements following a process of capture, consolidation, analysis and generation of insights.

A government body required a solution based around Microsoft Dynamics to support its new business model and engage its customers through a user portal. Matt led this major project from tender stage through to multiple releases. His extensive experience of Agile delivery was applied to project and team setup and initiation. Matt’s coaching and leadership skills enabled the development of a large, mixed client/vendor team with limited Scrum experience into a high performing team. He built and maintained client relationships up to executive level and managed many delivery challenges along the way. A focus on delivering business value and adapting to change enabled impressive outcomes across multiple business areas.

SMS was selected for its expertise in Agile Scrum and Microsoft Dynamics, to deliver a CRM solution for achieving efficiency gains and service improvement. As the ScrumMaster, Matt was responsible for ensuring that the team adhered to Scrum theory, practices and rules. Through inspection and adaption practices, Matt was able to improve team performance and facilitate an environment which enabled a high quality outcome for the client. Key to this was team coaching on Scrum and working with the client organisation on continuous improvement approaches.

Working in a scaled agile environment, Matt led team delivery of an existing program stream through to completion. The program replaced an online Contact Centre Solution with a strategic Siebel workflow system. Matt’s team achieved business endorsement for a solution which had been imposed for compliance reasons - a major achievement since the previous solution was well liked. Matt was then assigned as Agile Project Manager role on a major program which delivered a hosted Contact Centre solution to a large government department. In a customer-facing role involving multiple vendors, Matt successfully managed delivery of a Genesys WorkFlow Management (WFM) system platform.

I achieved my key objective, on-time delivery of new functionality for the company’s online Web Portal. The solution provides customers with the ability to ‘self-serve’ domains for their Cloud email security service, by adding domains and changing configurations. The solution comprises a UI, workflow, APIs, integration with external systems and new infrastructure. This was a large project, with a core team size of 24 spread across sites in the UK, US, Canada and India. I was the sole Project Manager responsible for delivery from initial concept through to development, testing, deployment planning and phased delivery to the customer baseSELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS:* Successfully achieving on-time delivery required ongoing mitigation actions due to the solution being more complex than initially expected. * Responding to the challenge of working within the confines of a PMO roadmap and matrix management organisational structure.* Chairing Steering Committee reviews with senior Stakeholders (up to VP level) to present plans and progress, and responding to stakeholder requests for a more aggressive plan.* I made sure progress/issues/risks were captured, understood and pro-actively managed so that I could validate and challenge each team’s status and drive the teams towards the next targets. * Resolved conflicting priorities of the R&D and Operations groups.* The delivery methodology included Agile techniques to improve delivery speed and quality.

I project managed on time delivery of a functional enhancement to Symantec’s cloud email scanning service. The objective was to augment the AntiSpam.cloud service with Sender Policy Framework (SPF) authentication capabilities. The core team of 6 successfully delivered within the required 3 month timeline, which secured a major new client before the end of the 2012 Financial Year. The short timeline meant that communication was critical; this included daily ‘stand-ups’ to ensure timely clarification and resolution of issues plus clear milestone status reporting. ‘Handover to support’ activities included training, process change, change approval board signoff, and delivery of client demo/handover material.

I was employed by Logica for over 13 years, having initially joined CMG in the UK in May 1998 prior to a merger with Logica in 2002. I transferred to LogicaCMG Australia in November 2004. The company re-branded as Logica in March 2008. The projects and roles described below were performed as an employee of one of these companies.

This project delivered a bespoke software application to support the NSW state elections in 2011. I was Project Manager for a team of 11 architects, developers and testers. I joined the project during the design phase and had to quickly develop the appropriate project management processes, particularly in the areas of project planning, test strategy, schedule maintenance, scope management, weekly client reporting and cost control. I represented Logica at the weekly progress meetings with the client.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS:* On-time delivery of a high quality and robust system, despite the underlying complexity of the solution.* I developed an open and constructive relationship with the client, enabling productive exchange of issues and concerns. * Effective management and mentoring of team members based in 4 separate locations.

EDRMS implementations for a Victorian State Government department. I led the delivery team of 4 people through design, configuration and rollout of a new EDRMS product (OpenText’s eDocs version 6). Close collaboration with the client and vendors was essential to meet the project objectives. Project control was achieved through weekly maintenance of the project schedule, status reporting and meetings, cost control across 5 different budgets, applying processes to ensure output from team members is of a high quality, as well as close monitoring of all issues and risks. In addition to the main stream of the project described above, I also managed a couple of smaller related projects for the same client. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS:* Successful deployment to 1200 users in line with client requirements.* The client relationship was fairly poor when I started on the project and I turned this around into a healthy, open and constructive relationship which benefited both organisations. * Implementation of an effective change control process.* Implementation of a robust software release process. * At project completion, I continued in a Delivery Manager role to look after the account from a delivery and sales aspect (for ongoing support work and enhancements)

I project managed a team of developers, architects, testers and business analysts (team size 7) on site at a major water retailer in Melbourne. The project objective was to develop a web based application to manage the impact that building works have on the water company’s infrastructure and resources. This project had a fixed budget so it was essential that I kept close control of the scope and cost, and communicated this clearly to the customer and internal stakeholders. We worked closely with the customers project team members at all stages and delivered in accordance with the customers PMO processes as well as Logica's. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS:* Effective leadership and motivation of the project team members in a difficult environment.* Meeting the challenge of delivering a high quality solution, which met the client's expectation, for a relatively low cost. * Innovative use of a code generation tool to build the Data Access Layer (to speed up and improve the quality of this process).
