Matthew R. Gallagher is a Chicago attorney concentrating his practice representing real estate developers, condominium associations, and individual home buyers and sellers in Chicago.Matt founded the firm of Gallagher Niemeyer & Abrams, LLC, in 2011, and its predecessor firm, Gallagher & Niemeyer, LLC, in 2000. In addition to his work at Gallagher & Niemeyer, LLC, Matt has worked for CARPLS, Cook County's Legal Aid Hotline, a non-profit agency serving the legal needs of Cook County's poorest citizens. He also practices estate planning law and represents persons appearing before Chicago's Department of Administrative Hearings. Matt graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1990 cum laude, where he received his bachelor's degree in Government & International Studies with a concentration in philosophy, politics and economics. He received his JD cum laude in 1993 from the DePaul University College of Law. While at DePaul, he was on the law review and was elected to membership in the Order of the Coif, an honorary society. He received a Certificate of Achievement in Weather Forecasting from Penn State University in 2012.Matt is a member of the bar of the Supreme Court of Illinois; the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois; the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals; and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Illinois Real Estate Lawyer's Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Illinois Bar Association.Matt lives in Chicago with his wife and two young children and is an active sailor. He served as the Chairman of the Chicago Yacht Club's Race to Mackinac and on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Yacht Club, where he also served as Rear Commodore. He is the Deputy Chairman of the Offshore Racing Congress and the Secretary of the Board of US Sailing. He is a member of the US Sailing Safety at Sea Committee and serves in numerous other volunteer roles related to the sport of sailing. He is a member of the Chicago Yacht Club, New York Yacht Club, and Storm Trysail Club. Matt is the past President of the board of directors of CASA of Cook County.
