Every company wants to do business ethically, but not every company knows how. Knowing how to do business ethically means more than establishing rules and policies. It means understanding why people behave unethically, how to influence that behavior, and how to create a culture of not merely rule followers, but one in which employees desire to do business the right way.That's where I come in. I am interested in learning about people and why they behave the way that they do. What factors influence a person's decision-making to choose a deliberately ethical or unethical outcome? How do you create a system of nudges that guide people to ethical choices? I have spent my career thinking about these questions, and I am passionate about learning the answers and teaching others how to create an ethical and compliant culture, all while achieving a company's business objectives.My role isn't just theoretical. I have helped companies of all sizes design and implement an effective program that is tailored to their unique circumstances and risk, specializing in antitrust and anti-corruption, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and the UK Bribery Act. I have conducted risk assessments, designed training programs, drafted policies, and helped design nudges to reduce a company's risk profile. And, as a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) and licensed attorney with a background in trial litigation, I have confronted legal challenges head-on. I have run investigations, combed through accounting records, interviewed witnesses, reported to Special Committees, negotiated with the government, and gone toe-to-toe in the courtroom (and won) against the Department of Justice.I love learning about interesting things.
