Co-Founded the Global Health Infectious Disease Research Program which has grown from 3 employees in 2004 to currently over 50. Followed through with this project from ground breaking to final walk through, including initial design and commissioning of over 10,000 sf of BSL-2, BSL-3, insectary and vivarium facilities; budgeted, ordered and equipped facilities with >$5 M core equipment; and faculty recruitment and program development. Have developed and directed several international conferences held in Thailand and in the US.

Co-founded the USF Center for Biological Defense under the DoD contract “Public Health Preparedness Against Biological Threats.” This program was designed to conduct research on Cat A-C agents, educate emergency responders, health care providers, and the community in preparation and response to biological threats, and developed surveillance programs. Supervised product development and appropriate dissemination of deliverables to funding agency; served on several state and local domestic security committees as Center representative; developed sample collection and shipping protocols for suspect biohazards; thorough understanding of federal laws, regulations and priorities related to biodefense; ensured compliance with all federal and state regulations related to biodefense research; produced monthly progress reports to sponsoring agency; wrote and submitted grant proposals, assisted with contract modifications and provided other contract support as needed; maintained high level of public relations activities including communications with elected government officials, Department of Homeland security officials, lobbyists, government and non-government officials, and DoD contracting officers.
