Family Based Services provide therapeutic interventions for children with emotional and behavioral diagnoses by engaging the family and the child's natural supports. Family Based interventions are focused on assisting the family in meeting basic needs, effectively handling crisis situations, strengthening attachment and positive interactions between all family members, growing the child’s resiliency and developing a family structure that meets the needs of the child. MHWs work in partnership with a masters-level Mental Health Professional (MHP) on a caseload of 5-8 families. MHWs also provide on-call crisis response and case management to families. In addition to weekly supervisions, MHWs participate in a 3-year therapeutic training cycle which can lead to certification as a masters-level Family Based MHP in Pennsylvania.
