I am a highly passionate person who has worked in Public Health for almost 9 years. Recently, i was promoted to be the manager of the PulseNet program in the state of Florida. At the Bureau of Public Health Laboratories I hope to build a collaborative effort that pushes the boundaries of what is possible, utilizing advanced molecular techniques. Our newest technology acquisition, a whole genome sequencer, has the ability to not only change the way we interact with PulseNet but could transform the foundation of public health microbiology.

The Salmonella Serotyping Assay is now part of our daily workflow at the state lab, greatly expanding our serotyping capability. The implementation and validation culminated in a poster presentation at the inFORM conference in San Antonio. Currently I am running the Salmonella Assay with other projects in the works. We are working to implement a shiga toxin E. coli molecular assay which will have a much needed positive effect on the detection of that specific food borne agent. Hopefully by implementing these new technologies we will be able to enhance epidemiological outbreak investigations to help improve future health outcomes.
