OOW (Officer of the Watch) of a 28,000 Deadweight Ton Articulated Tug-Barge Unit, while vessel was underway in US Gulf of Mexico. Supervised loading and discharging of multi-grade petroleum products, transferring up to 180,000 barrels of cargo while controlling ballasting operations to maintain the vessel in a seagoing condition. Awarded Crowley “Safety Play” for stopping load of dangerous cargo with unknown high hydrogen sulfide content.

Supervised a watch section consisting of four persons in all bridge watch activities, including but not limited to navigation, collision avoidance and shiphandling to accomplish specialized maneuvers in support of equipment tests, trials and demonstrations. Conned the ship at sea and supported the Sea Trials Master and harbor pilots in harbor transits, berthing, and drydock entries and exits. Ships included two 3,100 TEU containerships and two large naval auxiliaries; and included single-screw, twin-screw, diesel, diesel-electric, and LNG propulsion.

OOW (Officer of the Watch) of a 120,000 Deadweight Ton Suez-Max Super Tanker operating in the Gulf of Mexico; responsible for planning the passage of the vessel from berth to berth and maintaining bridge navigational equipment in operational condition. Successfully prepared navigational bridge for an external vetting by a major oil company. Managed vessel safety inventory and maintained fire-fighting and safety equipment onboard using a computer-based program.

International

OOW (Officer of the Watch) of a 120,000 Deadweight Ton Aframax Super Tanker, completing over 40 lightering operations. Only American mariner employed with the Malaysian-owned, Singapore-flag crude oil carrier. Operated internationally, including Southeast Asia, Singapore Straits, Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Suez Canal, and the Mediterranean Sea, and also within the US Gulf of Mexico. Was able to quickly gain the respect of my colleagues and take charge of watch teams consisting of five or more different nationalities.
