As an intern with the Control Flu Program at the Emerging Pathogens Institute (EPI), I played a key role in advancing public health initiatives aimed at controlling influenza within our community. This collaborative program, which began in 2009, partners with the Alachua County School System, Alachua County Department of Health, UF Department of Pediatrics, and UF College of Nursing to mitigate flu spread among school-age children.My responsibilities included:Administrative Support: I meticulously sorted and managed paperwork to ensure all data is accurate and up-to-date.Communication: I reached out to parents to verify and update information, ensuring smooth enrollment and participation in the vaccination program.Coordination: I liaised with elementary schools to organize and prepare for designated vaccination days, facilitating the logistics needed for the flu vaccine administration.This role provided me with hands-on experience in public health program coordination, enhanced my organizational and communication skills, and allowed me to contribute to a crucial community health initiative. Working closely with various stakeholders, I gained valuable insights into the challenges and strategies involved in managing vaccination programs and improving community health outcomes.
