Teaching CSE 321, Realtime and Embedded Systems

Design and development of custom software and hardware systems. Everything from embedded systems to smartphone and tablet apps.

Responsible for product management function for all products and services, including core content caching, video and storage. Developed strategy for uplift of virtualization and container services as part of overarching VMaaS offering. Participation in technical evaluations and due diligence tied to acquisitions.

Senior Director-level advising role reporting to the SVP of Operations. Primarily responsible for developing solutions for company-wide strategic issues. Founding member of the company Architecture Council. Lead the development of next-generation content delivery architectures and currently assisting in their implementation and deployment. Participation in key operational and development leadership and planning committees.

Promote and develop best practices, assist the AS team with unusual situations, and be a resource for the sales teams for strategic customers. In general, help Limelight leverage the unique skills of our team in ways that are high quality and scale.

Tier IV technical resource assigned to key customers. Responsible for designing solutions that help them to maximize the utility of Limelight's services and meet their business goals. This is a hybrid role, at various times taking on aspects of operational support, relationship management, and pre-sales solutions engineering.

• Supervise the Client Services department, comprised of 14 staff and 80 student employees, charged with operating the campus-wide IT call center, walk in support desk and 12 computer labs, supporting over 20,000 customers.• Project manager and primary architect for the campus Shared Service Desk project, with a goal of developing consistent ITIL service management practices and tools University-wide.• Manage the IT service delivery for the Center for Excellence for Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, a complex, multi-disciplinary research center.• Manage the CIO Project Management Office, responsible for defining CIO-wide standards for project and portfolio management.

• Participate as a member of the CIO’s senior leadership team, working with campus IT leaders to coordinate and improve campus IT services.• Provide leadership and direction to advance UB's mission through the strategic use of information technologies and information management for the research community and act as an advocate within the CIO area for academic and research computing needs for faculty and graduate students.• Work with the University research community, including research Centers and Institutes, to understand their needs, provide education about University IT services, prioritize resources, and plan research IT strategy. Foster and facilitate interdisciplinary computational research activities. Participate in University-wide committees focused on research infrastructure planning, policy and support. Consult with faculty regarding new and ongoing research projects to help identify and allocate the needed information technology resources. Act as advocate of faculty needs within the campus IT community.• Manage the IT service delivery for the Center for Excellence for Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, a complex, multi-disciplinary research center.

Supervised the Client Technologies department, comprised of 11 staff and 5 student employees, charged with desktop support and consulting services for 55 administrative departments comprising over 1,400 devices and 1,000 staff.

Provided leadership and planning expertise for all information technology projects in the department of Computer Science and Engineering. Supervised department IT staff and student assistants, responsible for maintenance of departmental IT facilities, including six laboratories and two server facilities. Responsible for department and research IT budgets of $400k annually. Participated on research grants and assisted in the grant writing process. Served as a liaison to other IT organizations on campus, and served on campus IT committees as department representative. Provided hands-on systems administration and software development support as needed.Significant Accomplishments:• Developed software to integrate campus data systems with a proprietary magnetic card access system, and developed a consortium funding model to sustain it. Today, this system and service is a de facto standard across the entire University, with over a dozen schools with hundreds of doors participating.• Implemented an IT cost recovery model for the CSE department, allowing research grants to be charged for IT services in an equitable and legal way. This model was used as an example for other IT cost centers on campus.• Was the IT lead on a NSF infrastructure grant that awarded the University $1.5M over three years. Developed the IT component of the grant proposal, and presented to the NSF site visit committee. After the award, was lead in the selection and procurement of the storage area network infrastructure components needed.

Provided general system administration, programming and consulting, primarily on the Sun Solaris platform. Responsibilities included services such as usenet news, electronic mail using sendmail and qmail, DCE server administration, distributed fileservers, AMANDA tape backups, Oracle database administration, and DNS. Developed infrastructure support for account administration using DCE RPC and Oracle SQL. Coordinated the design of a monitoring and notification system for all services.
