About Matt Bishop
As CEO and Founder of the award-winning digital health company Open City Labs Matt is a thought leader on social determinants of health (SDOH) and healthcare interoperability, and has contributed to the development of standards on referrals, SDOH, directories and long-term post acute care (LTPAC) and home and community based services (HCBS). Matt is a member of the HIMSS Social Determinants of Health Committee and has spoken at the US Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General, HIMSS, Patient Center Medical Home Congress, United Nations, SXSW Interactive, Health 2.0, NYU & Columbia University. He has leadership roles in numerous national standards organizations, including 360x SDOH closed loop referral, and Gravity Project, SDOH/social risk factors data and DirectTrust's Directory Policy, Directory Tiger Team and Consumer Credentials workgroups. He is the author of the forthcoming book “Unleashing Impact: A Roadmap for Government to Catalyze Innovation,” Apress/Springer 2024. In 2007 he worked in a management-training program at the Manhattan Psychiatric Center and Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center. He later joined Volunteers of America Greater New York to oversee close to $100 million in government-funded social service programs (health, housing, etc.) In 2010 he was appointed to the NYS Health Care Reform Advisory Committee, which advised the Governor’s cabinet on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. He has led web and mobile app teams for some of the world’s largest brands: Macy’s, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Esquire and PwC to name a few.
