Deputy Chief of the Brigade Task Force Forward Command Post. Formal Duties: Responsible for coordinating command and control operations, air and ground movements, engineer planning and synchronizing, and engineer operations for a 1,800 soldier task force in a combat theater. Responsible for coordinating with subordinate and coalition engineer units, military and Combined Joint Task Force units and staff, regional commands, and other agencies. Planned and led the upgrade of a high-use combat air strip in FOB Salerno, Afghanistan in five days with minimal disruption to flight operations. Managed over 70 contracts valued at over $6 million and coordinated 7 major construction projects conducted by two subordinate battalions in and around Afghanistan supporting combat operations.

Company Commander of a 150-soldier engineer combat construction company.Formal Duties: Commanded a heavy equipment engineer company capable of constructing roads and airfields in support of military operations. Planned and executed a combat preparation training program to ensure the company was prepared for combat operations in support of the Global War on Terror. Organized and executed the deployment of the company from Alaska to Afghanistan, including the shipment of over 300 pieces of engineer and military equipment. Company Commander for a combat heavy engineer company team assigned to the 18th Engineer Brigade (Task Force Sword). Responsible for constructing the 123 km Kandahar Highway between Kandahar and Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan. Supervised civil engineering, military security, and logistics, and maintenance operations in an austere combat environment. Coordinated with adjacent and higher military units, Afghan National Army forces, and local governmental officials to ensure the timely, secure, and quality construction of the Kandahar Highway. Managed a 250+ soldier forward operating base (FOB), including all classes of supply, logistics, security, and operations. Ensured the security of the project and crew located within Taliban staging areas, managed community relations with the host nation local governments and populace, managed supply chain and maintenance for low-density engineer equipment located over 60 KM from the nearest major U.S. base. Trained and mentored eight officers and 15 senior non-commissioned officers. Managed over $10 million worth of engineer and military equipment.

Formal Duties: Managed installation security projects in defense against terrorist attack and missile attack in support of a military headquarters installation located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Lead for the Director of Public Works in planning, developing, and budgeting engineer projects in support of force protection projects throughout the Army Central-Saudi Arabia area of Responsibility. Designed, developed, and monitored construction quality and execution worth $3.5 million as a contracting officer's representative during dealings with host nation contractors. Served as DPW property officer; Managed $1.7 million in government housing appliances and electronics. Supported contingency support operations relocating over 200 contractors and family members during the Riyadh compound bombings of 2003.

Construction Management Officer for Task Force Falcon, the U.S. Military task force deployed to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian. Internal Consulting: Designed and implemented an electronic project tracking system to increase efficiency and communication within the task force vis-a-vis engineering operations. Implemented a training program to ensure unit construction managers were trained and knowledgeable in the use of the system. Separately, developed an Engineering Management curriculum in Albanian. Using this curriculum, developed a nascent (local national) Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC) construction management capability by instructing KPC members in construction management techniques and processes adapted to their capabilities and environment. Formal Duties: Planned, designed, reviewed, and managed over 50 major military construction projects within the task force. Responsible for the initial and final quality assurance inspections on all construction projects.

Liaison Officer between the 37th Engineer Battalion and the 3rd Infantry Division in support of preparations to deploy to peacekeeping operations in Kosovo. Supported decision-making and information exchange between commands, including the secure transportation and exchange of classified information.

International exchange officer to the Chilean Army Mountain Instructor course. Organizational Consulting: Provided international liaison support for the USA World Cup Ski Team, and integration consulting to the U.S. Military Security Cooperation Office-Chile in support of integration with the mountain school.Formal Duties: Conducted high-altitude military mountaineering training and operations in the Chilean Andes mountains, including skiing, rock and ice-climbing, military mountaineer tactics, and high mountain survival operations.

Platoon leader for a 30 man airborne light equipment airborne engineer platoon supporting the 20th Engineer Brigade and 18th Airborne Corps’ world-wide contingency mission by conducting mobility, counter mobility, survivability, and sustainment engineering operations. Organizational Consulting: I was selected as deputy project manager (as an additional duty) for a major construction project involving the entire battalion's horizontal construction assets in support of a new forward landing strip (FLS) and training area on a remote area of Fort Bragg, requiring moving over 370,000 cubic yards of cut/fill. I reworked the project schedule twice to accommodate mission constraint and resource availability changes. I also implemented enhanced logistics and maintenance planning and operations to ensure a continued equipment readiness rate of over 90% throughout the project.Formal Duties: Responsible for providing technically and tactically proficient leadership to the unit in both peace time and combat operations. Ensured the health, welfare, and training of soldiers in the platoon. Maintained and operated 45 pieces of construction vehicles and equipment valued at over $6.5 million. Ensured the readiness of the platoon to deploy worldwide within 96 hours notice. Planned and executed mobility, counter mobility, sustainment, construction and airborne operations training, including expeditionary roads and road maintenance. Recognized within the battalion for superior engineer project execution ability; my platoon was selected to conduct a rapid road construction project, in which we built 2.5 miles of road in a remote portion of the Fort Polk training range in just 13 days—well ahead of the 20 day deadline.

Platoon leader for a 25 man airborne combat engineer platoon supporting 18th airborne corps. Organizational Consulting: Realizing that battalion-level equipment tracking did not permeate to the company and platoon levels, I developed an automated accountability system to improve the ease and accuracy of equipment accountability at all levels within the battalion. I also initiated and coordinated the creation of a modernized field leader operations handbook for the battalion. To support Army doctrine and equipment modernization, I coordinated and supported the Army's Volcano Minefield Project Manager. I led my platoon in testing and development of the Volcano minefield emplacement system; the recommendations provided by my platoon were incorporated into improvements in the system design. Formal Duties: Ensured the health, welfare, and training of soldiers in the platoon. Maintained and operated light construction equipment and kits valued at over $640,000. Ensured the readiness of the platoon to deploy worldwide within 96 hours notice. Planned and executed mobility, counter mobility, sustainment, construction and airborne operations training, including demolitions, airfield seizure and repair operations, and the emplacement and removal of mines and military obstacles. As a platoon leader, I took initiative to develop and execute several training events outside of the brigade, coordinating with special forces units and the 82nd Airborne Division. Ensured accountability of all equipment.

Deputy logistics manager (A/S-4) for a 558-person airborne combat engineer Battalion capable of deploying to any worldwide contingency within 18 hours. Organizational Consulting: As the deputy battalion logistics manager, I entered a logistics office that used manually-intensive record keeping and organization. Outside of my specified duties, I also I created a networked LAN and connected databases to centralize and streamline the utilization and management of the battalion's $2 million annual budget and its equipment tracking and accountability systems. Additionally the information system enhancements improved the speed and accuracy of battalion individual and unit deployment coordination and execution. In addition to the information systems, I refined and modernized the battalions logistics support procedures (SOPs). These information systems and procedural enhancements enabled the 37th Engineer Battalion to deploy multiple companies for overseas and cross-continent training, and to deploy and supply the entire battalion for field exercises without any logistical gaps or problems.Formal Duties: Acting primary logistics manager (S-4) for the majority of the period. Managed logistics, maintenance, and property accountability of over 7,000 major and items (e.g. vehicles and large construction equipment) valued at $22 million. Coordinated and supervised business travel transportation requirements for individuals and multiple company-sized (~200 person) unit deployments. Assisted in managing the battalion's $2 million budget, and supported the deployment readiness of the battalion's Admin Logistics Operations Center (ALOC).
