Laboratory research interests include measuring the effects of air pollution and hypoperfusion on inflammation and cerebrovasculature through both primary glial cell cultures and animal models. Responsibilities include assisting with project management, design, execution and abstract/ manuscript writing. Independently bringing new methods to the lab such as generating cell cultures for experiments and utilizing molecular techniques and imaging for analysis.

Founded and served as the Team Lead for the Department of Surgery's clinical research core, the Surgical Research Unit. The SRU is comprised of a team of 15 members including research assistants, research coordinators, research nurses, biostatisticians, and faculty. As Team Lead, responsibilities included leading weekly meetings, team project management, developing internal procedures and reports, and assisting with team hiring and training. Research responsibilities included clinical trial management, single and multi-site study coordination, subject screening, recruitment, study design, database set-up, and writing IRB submissions, protocols, grants, abstracts and manuscripts. Independently collected and managed clinical research data, ensuring integrity and accuracy of data, coordinating between research personnel to ensure compliance of protocols.

Assisted in the set up of a new departmental biorepository for neurological diseases. Responsibilities included screening subjects, consenting patients into the study, venipuncture, collection of neuropsychological, cognitive, and post-stroke assessments, data collection and management, blood and tissue sample processing and storage.

BRAINS (Brain, Rejuvenation, Aging, Inflammation, Neurodegeneration, and Stroke) Research Laboratory.Investigated the role of inflammation on cerebrovasculature, thalamic injury secondary to ischemic stroke, and the effects of platelet formation and secondary stroke prevention after ischemic stroke. Participated in experiment execution, data analysis, and development of protocols for the laboratory including new imaging and tissue clearing techniques and post-stroke monitoring and treatment of animals. Responsibilities included training lab members, management of the laboratory projects, and scientific writing.

Assisted in the set up of a new research laboratory. Independently designed and executed research experiments investigating the genotypic effects of APOE in inflammation and the role of APOE in neurodegenerative diseases. Collaborations included the role of APOE in traumatic brain injury. Responsibilities included managing an animal colony, laboratory management, and scientific writing.
