Having worked weekends and school holidays in the family-run business since a young age, I've been given the opportunity to work in a wide range of positions and develop a vast set of transferable skills over the years. In the earlier years, I started off by helping manage the gardens/grounds at the hotel and by undertaking some of the smaller maintenance jobs that are involved with the upkeep of the 18th century building.After a few years out in the gardens, I then moved onto working in the kitchen as a kitchen porter and occasionally performing some preparation tasks for the meals served in the hotel. Around this time, I also started to learn how to paint and decorate in the school holidays.In recent years, I've worked as a waiter in the Georgian dining room and served pre-dinner drinks behind the bar. As well as this, I've trained up to perform a quick turn around and service in the bedrooms when the departures have taken place in the mornings and new arrivals are due in the early afternoon. In recent ventures, I've helped in the administrative side of the business. In particular, I've worked alongside the receptionist in creating the summer promotions sent out to around 1000 regular and valued customers of the hotel. This has involved developing my database skills in order to find and produce the data needed to send hard copies of the promotions to each of the customers.I've always thoroughly enjoyed working alongside family and other members of staff which soon become personal relationships. The vast range of jobs and tasks I've successfully completed at the hotel have made me versatile and willing to get my teeth stuck into any project. Moreover, having worked with a range of employees, I've worked hard on developing my team building and communication skills in order for new members of staff to feel welcome and slot straight into place within the rest of the team.
