Technical Author

Derby, United Kingdom

The Core Technology team was responsible for producing the engine code and development tools used by the game teams to make video games for the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and PC. As I was new to the games industry when I joined Eurocom, I had to learn about all of these systems, including 3D computer animation and programming concepts before I could begin writing reliable documentation. The documentation was written in a combination of Adobot RoboHelp 8 and Innovasys HelpStudio 3.5. My primary duties were to learn new features and software as they were implemented, test them for usability and bugs, then document them. As part of this process I provided the programmers with feedback to help improve the software before it was released to the game teams. In 2009, Eurocom started using Autodesk Beast for their global illumination system. I was lucky enough to be involved with the integration of this software by providing in-house documentation to supplement Autodesk's own user manuals. This support continued through to the end of my time with Eurocom, as I helped document an advanced shadow casting system designed to give Eurocom's upcoming games a more dynamic visual style.Along with the team coordinator, I act as administrator for the team SharePoint site. This included copy editing and formatting documents and wiki pages created by members of the programming team.Eurocom Developments went out of business in December 2012, seven months after I was made redundant. During my 3½ years at Eurocom I was lucky enough to be credited their Vancouver 2010, Rio, James Bond 007: Goldeneye Reloaded, Disney Universe and James Bond 007: Legends video games, as well as work on other unannounced projects that were never released.
