After completing my MSc at Hertfordshire I started working at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance based in Greenwich, London. The role there has been very broad, growing and progressing in responsibility in accordance with the college’s needs. The day-to-day tasks of the role involve the maintenance of onsite AV equipment (50+ AV Systems, 15 iMacs and the Recording Studio), support of student and staff needs, technical support for events/guest speakers (largely involving PA setup). Beyond that I am responsible for researching, sourcing and ordering new equipment (via the Agresso finance system), repairing existing equipment, project-managing tech for offsite events and exams and liaising with other departments to ensure events run smoothly. The role has been extremely varied and offered many opportunities to develop additional AV skills. It also offered the opportunity to develop myself in a professional environment and build valuable professional relationships at Trinity and whilst working offsite at well-known London venues, including Southbank, Queens Place and the ICA. During my Masters, I was asked by the University to proctor the main music studios. This involved working in the evenings to allow third-year and Masters students to use the studios, and answering any technical questions people might have during that time, including helping with hardware/software setup where required. It was also my responsibility to ensure that the studios were locked and secure at the end of the day. My role as Society President was to organize and chair meetings, as well as keeping the website updated, acting as treasurer, meeting with members of the university executive team, and arranging transport and payment for events such as media expositions in London. Additionally, I constructed and maintained the society’s website and discussion boards.
