Deputy City Attorney - Labor Team
Current• Defend the City in state and federal employment litigation alleging discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour and civil rights violations.• Advise and counsel the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency on disputes with labor unions, employee discipline issues, and workplace policies.• Manage multi-party and multi-action disputes against the City, including those involving the City’s mandatory vaccination and military leave policies.• Represent management interests in bargaining with labor unions and in labor grievances, arbitrations, and disputes before the Public Employee Relations Board (PERB).• Provide feedback and advice to colleagues on litigation, and execute team training initiatives as Lead Deputy on the Labor Team.REPRESENTATIVE SUCCESSES:• Prevailed in a dozen termination actions before the Fire Commission, and obtained a stay of action in seven state court cases challenging the City’s mandatory vaccination policy.• Won summary judgment in a federal action brought by labor union leaders alleging violation of constitutional free-speech rights and whistleblower retaliation.• Obtained a favorable ruling in a PERB action filed by a labor union alleging unfair labor practices relating to the SFMTA’s procurement of electric battery buses.• Established an efficient roundtable system for vetting litigation cases for settlement.• Created system for quick review of pre-litigation settlements from the SFMTA.
