About Matthew Yancik
For the past fifteen years, I have worked in private, independent and public education as an admissions consultant, academic director, trainer and teacher. As an admissions consultant, I scout and recruit middle and high school students from overseas, helping them select private and independent schools in the United States. I supervise their applications, set up school interviews, and advocate for their admission, negotiating educational packages, scholarships and tuition rates. As the former academic director of a small private school in Los Angeles, I was responsible for the hiring, training and management of a faculty of twenty to twenty-five teachers, as well as designing school curricula and courses in conjunction with our Boston and Santa Barbara campuses. I also extensively counseled students of diverse cultural backgrounds and from nations all around the world on their intended course of study and future education goals. As a trainer, I was responsible for the instruction of other teachers in the core competencies of classroom instruction for the Board Of Education in Yokohama, Japan. I traveled from school to school, evaluating, critiquing and re-training teachers in lesson planning, material delivery and student engagement.Prior to my time in education, I worked for ten years extensively at several major, international television and film studios in New York City and Los Angeles, where I served on the technical and logistics sides of production. My main focus was in Technical Direction and Master Control Operations, monitoring incoming and outgoing satellite transmissions, ensuring the quality and timing of signal and troubleshooting problems when they arose.Ideally, I would like to someday combine my skills in the technical and creative aspects of media, my management and leadership abilities, and my passion for education and training.
