Software developer on the Small-holder Agriculture Monitoring and Baseline Assessment (SHAMBA) project as part of the Tropical Land Use Team. I Helped to develop a Python model to study greenhouse gas emissions of agricultural practices and land-use changes in Sub-Saharan Africa. I Also created an associated user interface using the Qt framework, enabling the SHAMBA model and methodology to be used in practice by non-specialists

Student researcher in computational physics, studying polymer systems. My responsibilities included building a C code base for the project from scratch (github.com/mghughes/dpd), running programs on high-performance computer clusters, and analysing data using Python and shell scripts. I used Grace, Python, and LaTeX to prepare the results for publication in an honours thesis, and presented results at two scientific conferences.

Student researcher in experimental materials science. I analysed electrical and ionic conductivity of materials using impedance spectroscopy, gaining skills at working with electronics and data analysis (curve-fitting/nonlinear regression in Excel and LEVMW).
