Metrology Architect

Current

"Architects should focus on engineers and outcomes, not tools and technologies"- Accelerate by Nicole ForsgrenSo that's the job! Making engineers effective and happy, so they can create the best outcomes for ASML. The best outcomes are highly valuable products. Since I work in the ASML Metrology department, those products are all about sensors, science, software, data, machine learning and more. All to keep our lithography machines cutting edge while keeping our developers productive. We get there with programming languages, development environments, fast feedback loops, test driven development, continuous integration, DevOps, CICD, Agile. Whatever tool or technology is required to get the job done, I learn it, coach the engineers to use it and streamline the development. All for the best possible outcome. My favorite engineering outcomes so far:- Started a multi-competence development team to build products with new tools and technology.- Happier customers: Together with this team developed backend services for applications that improve our customers user experience, allowing faster issue resolution times.- Happier engineers: Introduced the Julia language and other tools at ASML, to boost collaboration between engineering competencies. We now have an inner-source ecosystem of >100 Julia ASML packages.- Faster development: Ongoing exploration on how to deploy code in multiple ASML platforms at once; in embedded devices, cloud microservices, distributed computing platforms and more.

Algorithm Architect

Eindhoven Area, Netherlands

We design algorithms and data science products that help our customers make optimal use of ASML's complex lithography machines. As an architect my task is to define the product roadmap and figure out how to eat an elephant; breaking down the architectural design into smaller parts for the design engineers and software developers. The algorithms live in a complex ecosystem that spans across products and business lines. This introduces organizational complexity with many stakeholders. As the algorithm owner it is my responsibility to manage this complexity and allow the algorithms to succeed. While the algorithms require some complexity, I strive to simplify. This is an art of balancing direct profits against long-term sustainability, for ASML and our customers. Keywords:Systems Thinking, Roadmaps, Product Management, Scaled Agile

Phd Researcher

Research in the young field of organic spintronics, an interdisciplinary research field on the interface of physics, chemistry and materials science. My work focusses on investigating spin physics and magnetic field effects in organic semiconductors. An application of this research is the engineering of plastic magnetic field sensors. My main tasks as a PhD are:- Initiating and managing scientific projects,- Guiding students and trainees (won the physics education prize 2012),- Thin film device fabrication (spincoating, evaporating, sputtering) andcharacterization (electric, optical, magnetic, microscopic),- Numerical (finite element) simulations and theoretical calculations,- Presenting results in scientific journals and on international conferences.

Editor Faculty Magazine N!

Vereniging Van Eindhovense Natuurkundig Ingenieurs

The quarterly magazine N! is a combined effort of the physics study association ‘Van der Waals’, the alumni association VENI and the education organisation STOOR. The magazine is available to all physics students, faculty members and VENI members.Creating the magazine is a varied and creative task that demands a lot of teamwork from the editorial team. As an editor, I contacted many alumni about science and career and was in charge of writing articles and graphics design. Furthermore, I was a member of the alumniboard to proactively address the future of the association.
