I am a person interested in working at the intersection of information technology, social interaction and user experience, as well as IPR. In early 2000 my curiosity on how information technology could shape social structure and interaction motivated me to work on some very bold research projects related to ubiquitous computing, mixed reality, location-based services, communities and games. Interest in IPR followed later in my career as I realised that ideas were not powerful unless they could be protected. Nowadays, I have project management experience and I have a diverse set of skills related to information technology, social interaction, and IPR. I have a M.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering and Management.I take the time to continuously develop myself. In 2022 I studied C++ programming at Aalto University while concurrently working at PRH. In 2023 I studied data analysis and performed a patent landscaping study for PRH and Business Finland on the subject of Quantum Technology.Skills: Patents and IPR, Data analysis (SQL, Excel, Tableau), Object-oriented programming in C++, Project management, User experience.Less frequently used skills: Bayesian networks (AI), Social Network Analysis, Web crawlers.Hobbies: Investment in high-growth technology companies

AnalystNokia Nov 2009 - May 2010Espoo, FinlandFixed-term contract. My job was to analyse consumer research data (gathered from different countries) to understand the effect of peer recommendations in the handset purchasing process. -
Ph.D. StudentSystems Analysis Laboratory, Helsinki University Of Technology Jun 2006 - May 2008Espoo, FinlandI studied leadership and decision-making. Of particular interest to me was understanding how leaders' decision-making may become affected by issues from other parts of life (such as unresolved issues in personal life). On the subject see my book chapter on systemic collapse in Enron (Systems Intelligence in Leadership and Everyday Life, eds. Raimo P. Hämäläinen and Esa Saarinen, June 2007). -
User Experience ResearcherHelsinki Institute For Information Technology 2001 - May 2008Helsinki, FinlandAs User Experience Researcher at HIIT I participated in several projects where we experimented with novel service concepts (particularly related to Ubiquitous computing), interfaces (such as mixed reality and location-based messaging) and methods for studying users (such as participatory observation and shadowing).Highlights of my research work at HIIT include the publication of research work on a location-based messaging system called InfoRadar when mixed reality and location-based technology was still in its infancy (see NordiCHI 2004). Similar highlights include my work on a nomadic gaming community called Geocaching. See for example my publication on field-trial findings in CHI 2010. I also published another paper on geocaching in the HIIT technical reports 2007-1. This publication explored the social structure of the gaming community and utilised screen-scraping and web robot technology in gathering data. I also completed my Master's thesis at HIIT. It involved a purpose-built simulation to generate data of people's daily routines and utilised artificial intelligence (AI) to offered an adaptive, context-aware notification service to users. -
PresidentEstiem Alumni Jun 2006 - Jun 2007I acted as president of ESTIEM Alumni, the organization that represents graduated Industrial Engineering and Management students in Europe. Visiting Student ResearcherUc Berkeley School Of Information 2004 - 2005Berkeley, CaliforniaI performed qualitative studies (mostly participatory observation and interviewing) on a treasure hunt game community (geocaching). Later I also designed a web crawler that retrieved quantitative data on the interactions of the players. The objective was to understand how players use context in creating an exciting game for one another to play. I published a short-paper on the subject at CHI 2010 held in Atlanta. During the academic year I also took courses at the School of Information Management and Systems. -
