During three years I was a part time consultant, regarding coastal and marine issues, for "UNEP post conflict and disaster management branch" (which is based in Geneva). The job consisted mainly of doing environmental assessment after incidents, be it from accidents, war or natural disasters. I did three different missions for UNEP: * Lebanon (oil spill due to Israeli rocket attacks on a power plant) http://www.unep.org/pdf/Lebanon_PCOB_Report.pdf* Maldives (a sea swell caused coastal damage)* Ukraine (oil spill from shipping in Kerch Strait).http://postconflict.unep.ch/publications/ukraine_pdna.pdfThe job included planning, assembling equipment, conducting field work during trying circumstances, interacting with local partners, authorities and politicians, and to produce a report.

Tanzania, Mozambique And South Africa

My main task was representing WMU on the EU-Project TRANSMAP. The Project took place in coastal East Africa, from Tanzania to South Africa, and used the software "Marxan" to map target areas and suggest transboundary networks of marine protected areas for integrated conservation and sustainable development. In the wake of the Tsunami in December 2004, I was working for CORDIO (COral Reef Degradation in the Indian Ocean), in close collaboration with IUCN, to do rapid damage assessments of the coral reefs in areas severely hit by the Tsunami.
