Northern Europe is truly a wonderful part of the world. With a combined population of around 100m people across UK, Ireland and Scandinavia – we work on about 300 billion pounds of construction investment each year. The vision for sustainability across the Region has a laser focus on improvement. The Norwegian Government for example has just approved plans to achieve climate neutrality by 2030 – TWO whole DECADES earlier than planned. Sweden, Denmark and Finland are right behind – all focused on a common goal of securing a sustainable future. Denmark is a real trailblazer, managing to cut CO2 emissions in half since 1996. Not only this, half of the energy the country used in 2019 was supplied by wind power.What’s the connection between this and the construction industry? Well, in all of these countries construction is both a vital part of the economy and a big producer of CO2 and waste. In our region we sell around 34,000 new excavators per year. Ranging from small mini-diggers though to 80+ ton machines – most of which all have a big CO2 footprint. Applying very simple technology that reduces time, fuel consumption and risk across this amount of machinery has a tremendous impact on our environment. This technology needs to be easy to integrate to benefit from maximum adoption rate.
