I'm a journalist and international correspondent at heart, with long experience in editing, media and organizational management, newsroom leadership, all sorts of public speaking, and mentoring. I’m based in Tampere, Finland, managing my team of journalists virtually in our fully digital publishing process. During my experience I have gathered solid networks both in Finland and elsewhere, industrywide and beyond.For years I have reported to the CEOs and Editors of more than half a dozen Finnish media companies, worked for and with their well-known regional newspaper brands, building trust and a cooperation model, Lännen Media, that has endured through a decade and many challenges. Before Lännen Media I worked various posts at Aamulehti and Lapin Kansa of the Alma Media Corp.During my time as Editor-In-Chief and CEO I have never abandoned my earlier experience as a practical writer and commentator, remaining one of the most vocal experts on Ukraine, Russia, the EU and security policy in Finnish media. My views are regularly published in newspapers Turun Sanomat, Ilkka-Pohjalainen, Kainuun Sanomat and others.My passion is to stay creative and resilient under the constant pressures our media are facing, to be able to learn new things and support other key players in our orbit to grow.Now reaching a readership of 500,000 daily across the country and more in digital only subscriptions, I lead a team of journalists that serves seven Finnish regional newspapers, from five media houses, with exclusive quality content, research and stories of national and international level.I helped create and organize the production company Lännen Media (lit. Western Media) back in 2014, then served as its Editor-In-Chief and CEO until now. At best, the newsroom had 40 journalists. Lännen Media was rated by STT the third most quoted news source of Finland in 2018. Since, we have renewed and reshaped our operation to become digital-first and subscriber-serving, albeit much smaller in size.Alongside my main job I am available for teaching and mentoring. I volunteer to support journalism's values and free media causes, and recently my plans have included launching an international event on freedom of speech in Tampere, first of its kind. I am co-founder of the Aamulehti Tulenkantaja literary award. Among my many interests is supporting culture and arts as trustee of the Finnish Cultural Foundation's regional fund in Pirkanmaa.My language skills are native Finnish; English, Estonian, Russian, Ukrainian, Swedish and German. I am an authorized translater (rus-fin).
