As part of the leadership team my principal areas of accountability are leading our content operations (news, analysis and Studio) and business support functions (finance, IT and HR).

I led a research function supporting market development and sales strategy, sales and big-ticket bids. My team provided bespoke research across all of our key public and private sector verticals and commissioned and managed relationships with primary research providers and other third party sources. I also led our engagement with key internal stakeholders in the group and divisional leadership. I worked closely with other functions within Capita, particularly Marketing, PR and Investor Relations and Corporate Communications, particularly around the development of analyst briefings to support Capita's story within the analyst community.

I managed and delivered a programme of market intelligence and insight across Capita's key verticals: telecoms, retail, financial services, energy/utilities, UK central government and defence.

I established and ran a freelance business under the brand 'Defence Insight'. Through Defence Insight I provided market intelligence support and consultancy services to the aerospace and defence industry, as well as industry comment and analysis for the defence media. My clients included IHS Jane's, IHS Markit (formerly Jane's Information Group), Shephard Media, national press and specialist defence consultancies.

My role was to identify strategic market trends and opportunities, drive competitor intelligence and ensure this analysis was communicated across the business.

Defence market intelligence and competitor analysis

While at Jane's I held a number of roles. I started as a temp working on a data entry exercise and the success of this project led to the offer of a permanent role developing a military aircraft market analysis product (Jane's Defence Forecasts). Once this was up and running I was made Editor of Jane's Defence Budgets with a remit to transform it from an under-used paper product to an online data tool that could be used by both the internal teams at Jane's and our external customers to understand and forecast military spending.
