Working with HMDA: Big Data for the Data Scientist in the WildMotivated by personal struggles in working with the data set, I set out to lower barriers for other data scientists in the wild, individuals constrained in computational power and database administration skills. I provide a framework wherein, the database is moved from the local dev environment to The Cloud, resulting in easily shareable and reproducible Data Science workflow.Transfer Learning on the EdgeUsing resources from PyImageSearch, I demonstrate how to leverage transfer learning to train a neural network running on a Raspberry Pi Single Board Computer to identify the faces in a provided video feed. Interacting with models trained on different datasets demonstrates the primacy of data selection in affecting model performance.Visualizing HMDA mortgage dataWhen working with large geospatial data, mapping is a vital tool in the EDA toolbox. This project built upon the functionality of the CFPB’s HMDA data science kit. I provide a workflow to easily visualize the millions of records within HMDA data to assist in EDA and Feature Construction.
