Director Of TechnologyDexter Community Schools Jul 2008 - Feb 2011As Director of Technology for the Dexter Community Schools, I was in charge of a wide variety of projects and resources. The community graciously passed a Technology Bond in 2008 and one of my primary tasks was to implement the elements of the bond. This included new computers and servers to support 4000 users. It also included updating the infrastructure to a 10GB fiber backbone network and wireless-N. This was accomplished through the use of Cisco products. The project also supplied new classroom technology to every room in the form of digital projectors, sound reinforcement systems, interactive white boards, and document cameras. The bond project also involved the installation of all new security hardware including IP cameras and door access control. It was my job to see that the integration between the systems and the network were seamless and that devices followed out proper naming and IP conventions. The teachers then needed a wide variety of professional development to support the new technology and that was rolled out over the course of many weeks and months. It was done through small group sessions, online videos, and pdf-based handouts. The Technology Department was comprised of nine members, including myself, at the time of hire. The department had a director, an assistant director, and seven building support specialists. I managed their tasks as well as provided direct training to them to continually increase their knowledge-base.I was also charged with the oversight of the department budget. This mainly focused on the purchasing aspects as salaries and benefits were set by union contracts. However, I was directed with the task of budgetary savings as the district as a whole was needing to cut spending. Personnel and staffing levels were part of that charge.

In addition, I re-imaged client workstations, supported software, and was used as tier 1 and 2 tech support. I was also involved in the training and professional development of staff members in the use of technology.

Director Of TechnologySuttons Bay Public Schools Mar 2004 - Oct 2005During my time as Director of Technology for Suttons Bay Public Schools, I maintained the overall vision and use of technology at the district. In a department of two, my day to day activities not only included those of a director, but those of tech support and troubleshooting. The budget and overall operation of the department was my first priority. This encompassed monthly budget reporting, purchase of new equipment when necessary, and holding monthly technology meetings with board members and other district constituents. I also maintained the website, provided tech training to the teaching staff, and determined ways to utilize free or inexpensive technologies in support of curriculum in a cash-strapped district. I oversaw one other person in this job, the network administrator. In addition to this position, I created a student group for mutual benefit. The students learned technology at a level the common classroom could not provide and the district benefitted by students actively supporting technology in their classrooms. This was a high school and middle school group.
