I managed THSOA Houston Chapter's finances which enabled the organization to continue offering scholarships to the next generation of hydrographer and to hosting many great events.

During my time at DRDC, I was responsible for four ROV systems: one VideoRay Pro, two Seamor 300Fs, and one DOE Phantom DHD2+2. The technician that preceded me retired leaving the vehicles in an unknown state. My responsibility was to get the four ROVs into a known and operational state, and to test them in the tank they had on site. I was successful in these tasks, and in doing so have improved my troubleshooting and organizational skills, as well as my knowledge of electronic and hydraulic systems. In addition, I completed in depth inventory and system component reports for each system, and redid the DOE Phantom wiring diagrams that were otherwise dated, inaccurate or missing. In addition to working with ROVs with DRDC, I also had to opportunity to work with their sophisticated AUVs, including three Ocean Server IVERs and two ISE Explorers. I assisted in their launch and recovery, pre/post dive checks, routine maintenance and repair. ROVs and AUVs have a lot of similarities, and I believe that this experience was beneficial in my training.In my down time at DRDC, I studied the various vehicle manuals they had on hand, and a text book on underwater vehicles and hydraulics.Over the course of these 9 weeks, I have learned an immense amount, and I look forward to putting it to use in the ROV industry.

The ROV pilot technician program at the Marine Institute is the only one of its kind in Canada. It provides graduates with a solid grounding in electronics and mechanical technology through classroom, simulation and work place training to operate, maintain, and repair ROV systems. Graduates will have a strong knowledge of a wide range of work class vehicles, aptitude to perform ROV maintenance, understanding of specialized ROV systems, ability to work safely in difficult oceans environments, and talent to pilot underwater vehicles.
