Ships can’t deploy sensors in rough seas, satellites focus on the ocean’s surface, and buoys are stationary. The result is that much of the ocean is largely unknown, despite its economic and scientific importance. Scoot Science will change this. Scoot Science provides customers with a solution to these barriers and is striving to make autonomously collected subsurface data available to all marine-science stakeholders.

I co-led the conceptual development and implementation of web based spatial decision support system using an open technology stack. This application supported marine protected area design for non-technical stakeholders participating in California’s Marine Life Protection Act. MarineMap has been acknowledged as key to the success of this process and was awarded the Udall Foundation’s Environmental Conflict Resolution Award in 2010. My colleague Will McClintock has continued to export this application to marine spatial planning projects all over the world with SeaSketch.org

While there I was responsible for all aspects of design and implementation of GIS/RS projects with tight adherence to budget and schedule. I was a individual contributor on several large scale RS/GIS mapping projects for the many natural resource agency clients that ranged from U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and the insurance Services Office.
