Ketchikan Youth Initiatives was spawned from a community meeting called “Getting Outside the Box” in December 2004 after the deaths of two young men from a misuse of prescription drugs. This meeting of 15 youth ages 14 to 18, also attended by interested youth-related organizations who were there to “listen”, addressed the needs of youth in our community. From this gathering, Ketchikan Youth Initiatives (KYI) was formed in April 2005 as an Alaskan non-profit corporation. The needs identified at the meeting in 2004 were clarified and became the three major goals of KYI:- Develop young leaders while providing healthy drug-free activities and events.- Promote youth participation in high profile volunteer activities.- Support youth and young adults in achieving successful work experiences.These goals have evolved to incorporate emphasis on community service activities and life skills programming, particularly for young adults.As the President Adult Advisor, I perform the the tasks of the President of the Board of Directors when the President is out of town. I advise and mentor the Youth President on the Board of Directors.

The task force helps a community of young citizens with the necessary tools to become successful, independent, and respectful members of society.

Transition juveniles back into their home communities, restoring community relationships between juveniles and their home communities, empowering and equipping juveniles to make healthy living decisions

God is active in the world. We believe God's Spirit is always bringing restoration and life to the lives of people and this world.

Worked with the core volunteers to create and teach curriculum relevant to teenagers' lives and their families. Helped equip core volunteers for the constant changing environment of adolescence and their families.

The focus of the seminar was to bring the northwestyouth ministers/pastors together to equip and encourage the work God was doing through their calling and churches.

Worked as one of the youth interns under Kip Long to encourage faith development in teenagers.
