A sector-leading charity that mobilises the PhD community to support students from less advantaged backgrounds to access the most competitive universities and succeed when they get there. Responsible for people and culture, finance, risk, compliance and facilities; responsible for 100 staff, 500+ tutors and a £7m budget. Key achievements:• Improved commercial awareness and financial decision-making by redesigning budgets and dashboards, rolling out new board reporting and staff training programmes, and increasing transparency around profitability and business models• Ensured financial viability through a comprehensive and well-communicated process of cost-cutting and headcount reduction, while supporting a new sales strategy designed to boost income• Led finance, legal, HR and digital teams to revamp complex tutor pay processes to ensure accuracy and guarantee compliance• Worked with external consultants to create new staffing models and systems for improved collaboration and productivity across dispersed, hybrid teams

This Royal Charter Body organisation runs residential trips, community-based programmes and online experiences for 120k young people per year. Reporting to the CEO, I made strategic recommendations based on an analysis of impact and financial data from NCS and its key partner and competitor organisations from across the youth sector.

A rapidly expanding youthwork charity working with schools, local authorities and the NHS tosupport children and families who have experienced trauma. Key achievements:• Developed a new operating plan to enable the launch of a major new Greater London Authority contract, growing the charity from £1.2 to £1.8m income, 25 to 40 staff, and doubling the number of service users• Developed a new theory of change and evaluation framework and launched a revamp of CRM and data handling• Built and maintained credible relationships with a network of government and trust funders

Led the launch of this start-up charity, incubated by Ark Ventures, whose mission is to support low-income students to undertake postgraduate study in STEM subjects at leading research universities. In four months I led my team to build a network of partner universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, King's and UCL, create and deliver a marketing strategy, recruit 159 candidates and make scholarship offers worth £3.5 million to 24 students.Martingale's mission is to find, fund and support a new generation of STEM postgraduates. Postgraduate degrees are increasingly associated with academic and career advancement. However, student loans often fall short of tuition fees, never mind the cost of living. This puts postgraduate study out of reach for many who cannot fund their studies through family income. The Martingale Foundation has been created because we believe that family income should not be a barrier to the pursuit of excellence.

This new charity aimed to scale up its maths circles to reach 26,000 secondary students a year and create a pipeline through to higher education, doubling the number of maths PhDs in the UK. I rapidly engaged a network of board members, maths educators, delivery partners and charity scaling experts, consulted and gathered evidence to craft a strategic plan designed to achieve these goals.

Led Masorti Judaism, a youthwork, community development and capacity building charity with £1.5m income, supporting a network of community groups with 70 staff, 800 volunteers and 6000 service users. Key achievements:1. Setting and delivering strategy• Led trustees, staff and expert volunteers to develop new strategic plans and theory of change that connect clear statements of purpose and big picture thinking with well-defined, measurable outcomes • Achieved year-on-year improvement in delivery of strategic goals by introducing effective systems for managing complex teams and projects 2. Leading people• Transformed our governance structure and recruited new, skilled board members by engaging hig level professionals in pro bono innovations groups• Recruited and led a high-performing, motivated and collaborative team, achieving favourability scores of 90%+ on staff surveys• Developed team members through training, mentoring and coaching and supported them to take up more senior positions within and beyond our organisation3. Driving change through stakeholder management • Developed and delivered successful community and leadership development initiatives by building relationships with a range of partners: academic institutions, community organising networks, and capacity-building organisations• Tackled controversial issues and facilitated consensual, effective decision-making and policy formulation across a diverse network of community groups. For example, I achieved the adoption of religious same-sex marriage ceremonies across our community network.4. Generating income • Negotiated a new membership dues agreement with partner charities, resulting in an immediate 56% fee increase and leading to sustainable year-on-year income growth• Designed a new fundraising strategy which has doubled the charity’s annual income from donations and grants• Revamped systems and trained staff to ensure accurate information and robust financial planning

Creating strategies and business plans for a Community Organising/Parent Voice partnership between Ark and Citizens UK, designed to improve educational and wellbeing outcomes by embedding an innovative project within schools. The outcome was a delivery model and pilot strategy based on desktop research and interviews within a network of community organising, teaching and family education practitioners.

Teaching modern Jewish philosophy.

Designed and taught a combined academic/experiential course on 'Judaism and Justice' at Brandeis University's Genesis summer programme for gifted high school students. The course covered medical ethics in Jewish and American law, civil rights and terrorism, Jewish approaches to social justice, social action strategies and experiences including preparing and pleading a case in front of a Federal judge.
